Day 102 The National – Ada

The beauty of discovering a band that is well established before you had ever heard of them is that they can, if your lucky have a vast back-catalogue of music to enjoy and discover, rather than only a couple of past singles (or sometimes nothing at all) that a new artist may have. Falling in love with The National’s sixth studio album ‘High Violet’ in 2010, I am still to this day discovering music from their past that I never knew existed; Ada being one of these songs. Featured on their 2007 album ‘Boxer’, Ada‘s immaculate instrumentation paired with Matt Berninger’s hushed baritone voice creates a sonic image of pure beauty. The distinguished piano core that is prevalent in almost all of their The National’s music is truly the beating heart of Ada as it invites the varied instrumentation of the song to weave effortlessly about Berninger’s heavenly vocals in a dramatically endearing way.
